Financial Aid

MFS is committed to providing a high-quality independent school education, and working with families to ensure that we meet this goal. We believe that a diverse community is an important part of our learning environment, and seek to reflect the broader world in our classrooms.

While the principal responsibility for financing an independent school education lies with the students’ families, MFS is able to offer tuition assistance for qualifying families. Need is assessed through the independent agency School and Student Services (SSS), sponsored by the National Association of Independent Schools. Tuition assistance decisions are based on the results of this independent need assessment, and the school’s limited resources.

Although we are pleased to be able to offer tuition assistance, not all families who qualify for tuition assistance are guaranteed to receive it, or to receive it to the full extent of their assessed need.

Application Deadline is January 30, 2010.

To apply:

* Complete the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) with SSS, which can be found online at http://sss.nais.org/parents. (Click on "SSS Online; Complete A PFS Online".)  Applications can be submitted as early as November 1, 2009. Our school code is 2529.

* Parents who are separated or divorced must each complete individual PFS forms.

* Submit directly to SSS a signed copy of your 2008 IRS 1040 Tax Statement, including all supporting schedules and forms.

* By February 15, 2010, submit to SSS your signed 2009 IRS 1040 Tax Statement with all supporting schedules and forms. **If this is NOT available, explain any changes in income for the tax year, supported by 2009 W-2's, 1099's, or pay stubs. (A copy of your return must be submitted no later than April 15th.  Awards made before the current year tax returns are received are contingent on those returns substantiating the explanation provided.)

Award decisions are made independently of admissions decisions and all information is kept confidential. The award is made for one school year, and families must reapply each year.
